When talking about prevention of cancer, routine tests are not sufficient if you want to be on the safe side. What’s important is to listen to your body and notice when something’s different, unexplainable, and odd. Therefore, take a look at some of these symptoms that are commonly overlooked:

41s-1

Wheezing or shortness of breath

One of the first signs many lung cancer patients remember noticing is the inability to catch their breath.
Chronic cough or chest pain
Several types of cancer, including leukemia and lung tumors, can cause symptoms that mimic a bad cough or bronchitis. Some lung cancer patients report chest pain that extends up into the shoulder or down the arm.

Frequent Fevers Or Infections

A sign associated with leukemia – a cancer of the blood cells that starts in the bone marrow. What leukemia does is it causes the marrow to produce abnormal white blood cells. This in turn stops your body’s infection-fighting capabilities.

Difficulty swallowing

It may be a symptom of esophageal or throat cancer. In some cases, it is considered as an early symptom of lung cancer.

Excessive bruising and bleeding which doesn’t stop

These symptoms show that there is something abnormal happening with the platelets and red blood cells, which could be an indicator of leukemia. With time, leukemia cells crowd out red blood cells and platelets, thus impairing the blood’s capability to carry oxygen and to clot.

Weakness and fatigue

Generalized fatigue and weakness is a symptom of so many different kinds of cancer that you’ll need to look at it in combination with other symptoms. But any time you feel exhausted without explanation and it doesn’t respond to getting more sleep, talk to your doctor.

Bloating or abdominal weight gain

Women diagnosed with ovarian cancer overwhelmingly report unexplained abdominal bloating that came on fairly suddenly and continued on and off over a long period of time.

Feeling Full And Unable To Eat

Another sign of ovarian can be having no appetite, feeling full and being unable to eat, even though you haven’t eaten for some time.

Pelvic and abdominal pain

Pain and cramps in the abdomen, in combination with bloating, may indicate ovarian cancer. Leukemia also causes abdominal pain, which occurs as a result of the enlarged spleen.

Rectal bleeding and blood in the stool

This is a common symptom of colorectal cancer. Consult your doctor if you notice blood in your stool, and schedule a colonoscopy as soon as possible.

Unexplained weight loss

This symptom usually points out to colon and other digestive cancers. Additionally, it could be a sign of cancer that has spread to the liver, affecting the appetite and the ability of the body to eliminate toxins.

Upset stomach or stomachache

Stomach cramps or frequent upset stomachs may indicate colorectal cancer.
13.A red, sore, or swollen breast
These symptoms can indicate inflammatory breast cancer. Call your doctor about any unexplained changes to your breasts.

Nipple Changes

Many women suffering from breast cancer have reported that prior to being diagnosed with breast cancer their nipples were flattened, inverted or tuned sideways.

Unusually heavy and painful periods, or bleeding between periods

This is an early sign of endometrial or uterine cancer. Schedule a transvaginal ultrasound if your periods are heavier than usual.

Swollen face

A lot of patients with lung cancer report puffiness, swelling, or redness in the face. Hence, small cell lung tumors block the blood vessels in the chest, thus, preventing the blood from flowing freely from your head and face.

A sore or skin lump that doesn’t heal, becomes crusty, or bleeds easily

Familiarize yourself with the different types of skin cancer — melanoma, basal cell carcinoma, and squamous cell carcinoma — and be vigilant about checking skin all over your body for odd-looking growths or spots.

Changes in nails

You should also know that unexplained changes to the fingernails can be a sign of several types of cancer. Therefore a brown or black streak or dot under the nail can be a skin cancer. Also you need to know that the so called “clubbing”, which is an enlargement of the ends of the fingers with nails that curve down over the tips, is usually a sign of lung cancer. In addition you must know that white and pale nails are usually a sign of liver cancer.

Pain in the back and in the lower right side

This is an early sign of liver cancer. Back pain is a common symptom of breast cancer, because tumors press the chest. The pain sometimes occurs when the cancer reaches the spine or the ribs.
